We need to understand the essentiality of utilizing God’s word for us, His church.

Goal: That we gain a deeper understanding for why God’s word is essential for the church.

1. We need God’s word because of terrible times. (V1-9)

2. We need God’s word to follow in the footsteps of faithful believers. (V10-12)

3. We need God’s word because it makes us wise for salvation. (V13-15)

4. We need God’s word because it is useful to equip us for godly living. (V16-17)

God’s word is essential to the sanctification and working of His whole church.

It is also essential to each and every believer. If we hope to know who God is, know Him personally, and serve Him well, we need to be people who hang on our Saviour’s word.

So the application is really very simple. Ask yourself, do I treat God’s word as though it’s absolutely essential to my life? Or do I treat it as an add-on to everything else I already consume?

Make it a daily habit to understand that we need God and we need His word. Go to the Bible daily. Live in it.

Each morning, identify one biblical reason why you need God’s word and write it down. Let that spur you on to spending some time in the Bible.
